about

OUR MISSION

It is the mission of the Happy Valley Goose Bay SPCA to advocate on behalf of those who can’t defend themselves.  To help prevent animal cruelty and abandonment by promoting responsible, caring and compassionate attitudes towards animals.  We ensure shelter for orphaned animals, animals suffering and those in need.  We believe, all animal life has value and devote ourselves to providing a leadership role in the humane treatment of animals.

As an organization we have adopted and believe in the Five Freedoms:

  1.  Freedom from hunger and thirst – by ready access to fresh water and diet to maintain full health and vigour.
  1.  Freedom from discomfort – by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
  1. Freedom from pain, injury or disease – by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
  1.  Freedom to express(most) normal behavior – by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of animal’s own kind.
  1.  Freedom from fear and distress – by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.

We consider animal welfare as both an individual and a community responsibility, therefore we are committed to working with individuals and communities in our region to help promote greater responsibility and compassion for animals.  We provide a clean and safe sanctuary for companion animals.  The animals in our care become happy, healthy, well socialized enabling them to be adoptable.
