Health Justice

about

The right to care. The power of choice.

Health Justice uses research, education, and advocacy to improve the laws and policies that govern coercive health care in BC. Our current priority is to better support human rights in involuntary mental health and substance use care by reforming BC’s Mental Health Act.

Our work is rooted in the lived experience of those most impacted: people with lived experience of involuntary mental health and substance use treatment.

Our vision for BC:

Every person can access dignified and effective health care that respects their human rights.

Self-determination is recognized as essential on the path to wellness and every person has access to the supports they need to exercise it.

Coercive health care is imposed as a last resort and everyone experiencing it has the services they need to ensure their voice is heard.

We are committed to shaping a mental health system that supports the dignity and human rights of the people who use it.
