In Libya, the costal city of Derma was heavily impacted from widespread flooding caused by Storm Daniel. As many as 20,000 people were killed in Derna alone after two dams collapsed—sweeping nearly 25% percent of the city into the Mediterranean Sea—while at least 30,000 people were displaced. The government of Libya appealed to the international community for humanitarian assistance in the search and rescue efforts as well as helping all those affected by the flooding.
HPIC communicated with local partners to mobilize an emergency response and launch the Libya Floods Emergency Response Appeal.
