URGENT APPEAL! DONATE TODAY TO HELP PAKISTAN FLOOD VICTIMS
Buner, Pakistanis one of the most severely affected regions in the 2025 Pakistan flooding disaster. Torrential rains and flash floods have devastated entire communities, just three years after similar catastrophic floods struck the country in 2022.
Entire homes, livestock, and sources of income have been washed away.
Thousands are displaced, and among those hardest hit are older women and men, many living alone, with chronic illnesses, or with mobility challenges, now cut off from care and connection.
HelpAge Canada, through our trusted partnerships with HelpAge International and our Global Network member (FAID – Foundation for Ageing and Inclusive Development) has teams on the ground responding now. Our approach focuses on the needs of local communities and the challenges facing older people, too often overlooked in emergency response efforts.
What’s urgently needed: shelter, clean water, food, medicines, hygiene supplies, and critical social support to help those affected process emotional trauma and rebuild hope.
Local victims, local voices: "Our rooms have been washed away. Our only source of livelihood was our cattle; we sold milk to survive. Now many are injured or dead. My husband is 75 years old and cannot work. This is not even our own house; we were living on someone else’s land, working on their farms, and looking after their fields. Now the floods have destroyed everything: the grains, our utensils, even our beds. We have nothing left and no way to earn for ourselves. We are deeply worried about how we will cope with this loss," shared an older woman to one of our local humanitarian aid team members.
Helping an older family member with mobility challenges: "We had no way to escape, and we lost hope that we would survive. To save our lives, we had to climb from one roof to another. But it was even harder to get my mother-in-law out, as she has a mobility problem. Every moment felt like a struggle between life and death."
