Helping Haiti's Emergency Appeal: First Aid Emergency Response Team

On Saturday, August 14, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck southwest Haiti, killing over 1500 people and injuring thousands more. Haiti was then hit by Tropical Storm Grace, complicating efforts to search for and rescue survivors and causing flooding in the camps where people are staying after losing their homes.

After experiencing their own devastating earthquake in Port-au-Prince in 2010, our Emergency First Aid team was eager to help in any way they could. Our team is made up entirely of community members from Cite Soleil, Port-au-Prince. It includes individuals who have completed our month-long community medical first responder program and the program's instructor. The team has travelled to Les Cayes, the epicentre of the earthquake, to provide emergency relief and critical medical supplies.

This is a constantly evolving situation and a time of great need for support in Haiti. If you would like to support our team in their relief efforts, please consider donating to our Emergency Relief Fund. Monies raised will cover our team's expenses while in Les Cayes, including medical and first aid supplies.

**UPDATE (August 24): Thanks to everyone's generous donations, we have been able to send 4 teams to the epicentre of the earthquake (Les Cayes and the surrounding communities), and our teams continue to work through the stress and trauma of aftershocks. Despite the risks, our teams hope to stay in the area and continue to work for a bit more time. There is still much need in these communities; however, we need your help.
