November marks Domestic Violence Awareness month, a time devoted to raising awareness on the profound impact of domestic violence in our region and showing support for the courageous women and children fleeing abuse.

The color purple represents domestic violence awareness. Purple stands as a symbol of peace, courage, survival, honor, and dedication to ending violence. Displaying purple lights serves as a powerful act of solidarity with those who have faced or are currently facing domestic violence.

According to the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability (2022), tragically 850 women and girls were killed due to violence perpetuated against them from 2018 to 2022. Distressingly, one woman or girl is killed every 48 hours with the number of incidents increasing in the post-Covid era (27% more in 2022 compared to 2019, pre-Covid year).

Hestia House has been a beacon of hope for over 40 years, sheltering and supporting more than 12,000 abused women and their children. We offer a secure and safe environment and provide comprehensive support, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
