About HIPPY HALTON HOME-BASED PROGRAM INC.
Think of a time when you had butterflies in your tummy....
Was it your first day of school? Do you remember your first day at school? Think what it would be like if you were the only one who didn't know what to do.....
Research shows that children who lag at school entry seldom, if ever, catch up to their peers and are at risk of dropping out of high school.
HIPPY Home Visitors pay weekly visits to Mothers in their homes and use role-play to teach the week's activities, based on children's literature.
Mothers teach their 3, 4 and 5-year-old children the five days of activities of the pre-reading, pre-writing and pre-math skills they need for success in kindergarten and beyond
Bi-weekly Group Meetings offer speakers and a peer group for parents, as well as a preschool experience for their children.
HIPPY's 30-week program in each of the 3 years has a lasting impact!
Program Impact
Children are confident and ready to learn as they enter school.
Mothers: strengthen relationships with their children, English literacy skills, and understanding of school expectations. They become their children's advocates in school and the community and develop a peer group of other HIPPY Mothers.
Home Visitors earn a Living Wage in their first job in Canada. They learn about the Canadian work culture, build a resume, and obtain a Canadian reference.
They also improve their English literacy skills as they act as peer mentors to HIPPY Mothers.
HIPPY tames butterflies and makes them fly in formation!
