The Historical Society of South Dundas is a non-for-profit organization that is composed of a board of Volunteers from the community who have a passion for preserving local history. South Dundas has many stories to tell in its rich history; the flooding of the St. Lawrence Seaway, the birthplace of the McIntosh apple, and the settlement of the Empire Loyalists to name a few.
Our mission is to ensure that no history gets lost in time, left behind, or forgotten. History does not only denote stories, but also locations and artifacts.
The Historical Society of South Dundas is currently working to restore one of the three remaining original stone foundation houses that were built by Empire Loyalist Michael Carman the first between the years 1810 and 1820.
Once the building is restored, it will act as a community gathering center, a mini museum, and the headquarters for the Historical Society of South Dundas. We are looking to create a place where everyone is invited and welcome.
This project is large and has multiple steps included in it, but once it is completed, it will be a place where the community could gather and grow together.
