Julliette's Place (Homeward Family Shelter) is a refuge for women and children fleeing domestic violence.
History of Homeward Family Shelter o/a Julliette's Place
Julliette’s Place opened its doors on June 18th 1990. Starting as Homeward Family Shelter, Julliette’s Place was envisioned by a group of compassionate socially concerned individuals from Scarborough whose goal was to uplift women fleeing domestic violence. It is the first known facility of its kind in Toronto designed specifically as a shelter. Funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the Ministry of Housing, provide services to abused women and children only.
On the Mother's day week end of 1996, Homeward Family Shelter, lost an ex-resident, Juliet Reynolds. She was murdered by her estranged partner and abuser. In 1997 we renamed the organization to Julliette’s place in her memory. However, the corporate name of the organization remains Homeward Family Shelter.
