about

HOPE AND ANGELS FOUNDATION

Hope and Angels Foundation is a non-profit, developmental, humanitarian organization aimed at bettering the living conditions of desperately disadvantaged children in Angola.

GOALActively working towards reducing the effects of poverty experienced by vulnerable children in Angola. Providing food, shelter, clothing and education to severely disadvantaged children ages 3 to 15.

VISION:  Offering dignity and hope to Angolan children by providing them with their basic needs. Also educating and assisting communities in establishing viable forms of sustainable income (i.e. garden vegetables, bakery, poultry/eggs.)

THE CHILDREN:   Hope and Angels Foundation is presently supporting 124 children in two separate facilities located in two different locations of Angola (67 children in Mupa and 57 in Luanda). Many of them face severe trauma in their young lives   --   children who are living well below the poverty line or as orphans or as victims of human trafficking who have been sexually, physically, mentally or emotionally abused.

MISSION OF MUPA ORPHANAGE/BOARDING SCHOOL IN MUPA, ANGOLA:   Mupa is one of the most impoverished communities in Angola. It is located in the Province of Cunene where excessive rain in the rainy season and prolonged drought in the dry season have had a devastating impact on people and livestock for many years. As a result, there are many deprived children in Mupa who lack the basic necessities of life.

  • 67 children in Mupa are supported by Hope and Angels Foundation.
  • Several of the children are orphans and have no family support at all.
  • Hope and Angels Foundation gives these children food (2 meals/day), clothing, shoes, shelter and potable water.
  • The Foundation also provides the children with an opportunity to receive an education through to Grade 9.  This is an achievement few in Angola are able to attain.
  • These children live at the Mission of Mupa Orphanage/Boarding School (“Missao da Mupa”) along with the Holy Sisters of Mupa.

DAILY COMMUNITY PROGRAM IN LUANDA, ANGOLA:

  • 57 neglected children in Luanda are currently cared for by Hope and Angels Foundation.
  • These children receive two meals per day as well as clothes and shoes.
  • The Foundation also employs two full-time teachers who work with the children in developing their literacy and numeracy skills.
  • The focus of the lessons taught by the teachers at the Community Program is to train the children to read the Bible and complete Bible Study Lessons with competence.

After seeing the devastating effects of poverty on the children of Luanda, Hope and Angels Foundation established a Community Program in 2017 in one of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods of that city. A large number of families in Luanda are single-parent families.  Many single mothers set off around 5:00 a.m. in search for what’s needed for their family’s daily survival.  In many cases, they spend their days scouring through garbage dumps and containers.

Their children, however, are left unsupervised and fending for themselves. They have no hope of ever attending school. Spending their days as beggars, they are exposed to abuse and introduced to crime, prostitution and human trafficking.

Hope and Angels Foundation provides a safe, loving, protective environment for 57 of these children.

PLEASE HELP WITH THESE ESSENTIAL PROJECTS

WATER WELL/SOLAR ENERGY:   The children living in the Orphanage/Boarding School in Mupa are in desperate need of a source of fresh, clean water. It is so imperative that a well be dug on site for them.

Current issues:    (1) The only source of fresh water for the children living in Mupa is the local river. The water in the river is contaminated by deadly bacteria. The bacteria in this water cause sickness, disease and death.

(2) In order to obtain water, the children must walk 7 km to the river and back. Many of the older children make this trip 3-4 times a day in the intense heat balancing heavy water jugs on top of their heads.

(3) Once the water is brought to the Orphanage it is filtered through a filtering system. But often the system breaks down because parts wear out or break. At that point, there’s no way of fixing the system so the children are faced with consuming contaminated water.

(4) In 2019, the local river dried up completely due to the devastating effects of severe, prolonged drought.  At the present time, the children at the Orphanage/Boarding School and those living in the village of Mupa are without fresh water.

Will you help?

Please contribute towards the digging of a well at the Orphanage/Boarding School so the children will have a dependable source of clean water.

SOLAR ENERGY:  There’s NO ELECTRICITY at the Orphanage/Boarding School in Mupa. Once the sun sets at approximately 6:30 p.m., the children must complete their tasks in the dark.

Bring light and power to the Orphanage!!

Please help the children by contributing towards the purchase of solar panels .

HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS:   $416 U.S./month gives an older child the opportunity to attend boarding school in Windhoek, Namibia in order to complete his/her high school education.

Your generosity in providing high school scholarships provides children with the opportunity to receive:

.. accommodation      .. food      .. tuition fees (paid)      .. books      ..supplies      .. student visa

The children who are cared for at the Orphanage/Boarding School in Mupa have a bleak future beyond Grade 9. It’s impossible for them to receive a high school education. And without support, many are forced by lack of opportunity to live on the streets once they complete elementary education.

  • Hope and Angels Foundation currently provides elementary education to 67 children living in the Orphanage/Boarding School in Mupa. Since there are no high schools in that area of Angola, education for these children finishes at the end of Grade 9.
  • Once these children graduate from Grade 9, the Foundation gives them (ages 15-19) the opportunity to continue living at the facilitiy. These older children help with all the daily tasks that must be accomplished in caring for 67 children.
  • Even though these older children have a place to live, there is no opportunity for them to continue their education. That means there’s no chance of them fulfilling their dreams of accomplishing so much more in their lives (i.e. doctor, nurse, teacher…………)
  • Sadly, once they turn 19, they must leave the Orphanage. To where?? To what?? After being protected, nurtured and educated at the Orphanage, most have no alternative but to live on the streets.
  • Hope and Angels has established an agreement with a boarding school in Windhoek, Namibia. The administration of the boarding school is willing to open its doors to these beautiful children from Mupa. But scholarship money is needed in order for the children to live and study at this school.

You have an important role in ensuring these children have a bright future!!
