In the spring of 2014 the Horse Protection Society of BC (HPS) formed a coalition of horse welfare charities called the Equine Veterinary Fund Coalition (EVFC). The participating groups are HPS, Circle F Horse Rescue, Greener Pastures Standardbred Rescue and New Stride Thoroughbred rescue. All four groups are registered charities.

The purpose of the coalition is first to raise funds for veterinary care for the horses in our charge. Our second objective is to raise funds for various horse welfare initiatives throughout the province. Future goals could include a gelding program and a euthanasia program, as well as educational initiatives. In addition, the group is interested in forming horse rescue standards and guidelines that may be adopted in BC and hopefully across the country.

The purpose of forming the coalition with registered charities is to maintain the highest possible level of integrity. All four groups are accountable to Revenue Canada, our operations are a matter of public reference. This coalition is unprecedented in BC and we hope it will serve as a model for other areas. The issues facing horses today are too large for one group to manage. Working together we could make a huge difference to the welfare of horses.
