Help Us Stop Puppy Mills

On June 20th a flight from Ukraine landed in Toronto with 500 puppies destined for sale in Canada. 38 of those puppies passed away during transit, from apparent suffocation, and dozens more arrived in poor health conditions. Some of them, sadly, died shortly after. Read full story here.

This publicized incident prompted the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, CFIA, to put a temporary ban on the importation of puppies under 8 months of age from Ukraine. While this is a step in the right direction, it does not solve the overall scope of the problem: ending puppy mills.

Humane Canada™ educates the public on ways to stop puppy mills from operating. Unfortunately, our country has a thriving puppy mill industry due to the high demand from people eager to bring in a young dog into their lives. The only way to tackle the supply is by putting a halt to the demand. As always, if you are thinking about adding a new four-legged member to your family, please adopt from your local humane society, SPCA, rescue ormunicipal shelter.

Do you want to help end puppy mills in Canada? Make a donation today and take our Puppy Mill Pledge to commit to four simple acts that will help end puppy mills in Canada.
