THE GREAT CANADIAN GIVING CHALLENGE 2019 is an opportunity for ICEJ Canada to raise funds and awareness for two major projects in Israel:
1. ISRAEL IN CRISIS
Just imagine seeing incendiary balloons and kites soaring through the sky, then watching one drop and set your field on fire, burning your crops within minutes. These are the kinds of daily attacks that Israelis living near the Gaza border have faced this past year.
These arson attacks are not as frequent during the winter months, as it is the rainy season when fields are relatively wet. Yet as soon as the summer heat arrives, the fields get very dry, arson attacks multiply, and the fires spread rapidly. Therefore, there is a great need for better firefighter training in Israel’s south and more equipment to get into the fields. We were just there in May and recorded a live report you can watch.
Our goal is to raise $15,000.00 to help purchase new fire fighting equipment this June!
2. HAIFA HOME FOR HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS
Approximately one third of Israel’s some 180,000 Holocaust Survivors are impoverished, struggling with illness, or living alone. In 2009, ICEJ began a partnership with the local charity to provide a Home especially for survivors. It offers attractive assisted-living facilities and a loving family environment.
The Haifa Home has grown from one renovated low rise residential building to now 13 providing care to approximately 80 Survivors in need with a warm and trusting environment with staff, volunteers and group visits coordinated by ICEJ Deputy Aid Director, Yudit Setz.
Accommodation, meals, outings and in house events are critical to the well being of residents and non-resident Survivors. An art gallery and museum to document and honour the lives of the residents is now open. It gives us much joy to help facilitate this loving and happy life style for these precious people in their remaining years in their homeland.
Please help us to continue our support from Canada, every donation is important with a goal of $10,000.00!
