About Spinal Cord Injury Nova Scotia
Spinal Cord Injury Nova Scotia, known formerly as The Canadian Paraplegic Association of Nova Scotia – was founded in 1952 by WWII veterans who had sustained spinal cord injuries. These trailblazers helped create the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, opened the world’s first spinal cord injury rehabilitation centre, and laid the groundwork for a nationwide support system.
For over 74 years, we’ve carried their legacy forward; growing and adapting to support all people with spinal cord injuries. We are a division of Spinal Cord Injury Canada, a national network made up of eight provincial organizations. Together, we work to improve the lives of people with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities across the country.
From the moment of injury through every stage of recovery and life beyond, we offer flexible, person-centered support—always guided by the mission our founders began.
