The objectives of Brassroots are:
to increase the public's knowledge and appreciation of music;
to collaborate with other musical ensembles, choirs and artists;
to encourage public participation in music;
to encourage the development of young brass players;
to promote Canadian composers and arrangers.
Brassroots was founded in 1986 and has presented its concerts in the City of London every year since. The ensemble consists of four trumpets, one horn, four trombones, a tuba and two percussionists. It's eclectic programming - from jazz to classics - has loyal and enthusiastic support in its community.The ensemble has also performed in over thirty communities in south west Ontario; has represented Canada in Festivals in the USA and in 2013, undertook a highly successful tour of eight cities in China. Brassroots has organized competitions for brass students in Ontario, supported generously by Ontario Trillium Foundation and London Arts Council. The ensemble has premiered seventy compositions and arrangements by Canadians, many by its own members. Seven recordings have enhanced the reputation of Brassroots far beyond the shores of Canada. The ensemble will produce its next recording in the Spring of 2015. Brassroots members are among the finest brass instrumentalists in Southern Ontario and are very involved with orchestras, bands and other ensembles in their communities. The Music Director is Bramwell Gregson. He has conducted in many cities in North America, the U.K. and Europe. He has also produced and conducted some thirty recordings with four different ensembles.
