About BOWEN ISLAND HERITAGE PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION
Bowen Heritage was formed in 1989 to save the Davies Heritage Orchard from being demolished. The lands had been purchased by the Greater Vancouver Regional District (now Metro Vancouver) as a part of Crippen Regional Park, and they were destined to be cleared of the charming cottages that have housed visitors to Bowen Island, British Columbia, since the booming resort days of the 1920s. The Orchard itself, planted by 1887, had become overgrown with native shade trees. Working together with the community and Greater Vancouver Regional District, Bowen Heritage began the continuing process of protecting and restoring the Orchard and its cottages. A significant part of our community heritage was saved and continues to live through the foresight of Island volunteers.
