Our Mission
imagineNATIVE is a registered charity committed to creating a greater understanding of Indigenous peoples and cultures. We achieve this through the presentation of Indigenous-made film, video, audio, and digital media at our annual Festival; through our iNstitute’s year-round professional development programs; and our Film + VR Tour, which visits dozens of communities across Canada. imagineNATIVE is one of the most influential Indigenous organizations in the country. As such, it is our responsibility to mentor new and emerging Indigenous creatives. We do so by fostering an environment that enables artists to explore and celebrate their cultures, develop leadership skills, and promote a sense of belonging through our many initiatives.
About imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival
On the international stage, imagineNATIVE has emerged as a sector and artistic leader, recognized as the global epicentre for Indigenous media arts. We support content creators and community by presenting hundreds of new works annually; providing the largest meeting place for Indigenous media artists, industry leaders, and broadcasters; awarding over $55,000 in cash and thousands more in rentals and services; commissioning work and research; and facilitating the sale of works to national and international buyers, curators, and programmers.
In 2018, imagineNATIVE received the prestigious Ontario Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, following nominations in 2009 and 2015.
