To support and champion Independent Living for persons with disabilities through self-directed services and programs.
About INDEPENDENT LIVING WATERLOO REGION
Independent Living Waterloo Region provides programs and services to people with disabilities to help them live full, fulfilling and independent lives in our community.
Programs include:
Individual Advocacy - Helping people with disabilities to develop skills and advocate for themselves when it comes to issues that affect them.
Peer Resource - Connecting people with disabilities with community services, and with each other to help them network and navigate available resources.
Beyond Barriers - Presentations delivered to businesses and organizations outlining strategies for improving accessibility and removing barriers.
Access Fund - Funds to which people with disabilities can apply to help with the purchase of assistive devices.
Attendant Services - In-home assistance with activities of daily living, funded by the provincial government.
What Your Dollars Do
- $100 Audits a public space to ensure it’s accessible for all.
- $500 Helps people with disabilities improve transferable skills, establish financial security, and overcome isolation through Peer Advocacy workshop/activity.
- $1000 Sends a group of youth with disabilities on a weekend retreat to practice crucial skills they need to transition into independent adulthood.
