Our Philosophy
The Inglewood Child Development Centre’s philosophy is based on a ”learning through play” approach that emphasizes for all children – regardless of age, ethnic background, socio-economic status, mental and/or physical challenges – development of the whole child. A learning-through-play-program delivery philosophy stresses the importance and value of children’s play in the learning and exploration processes of young children. We believe a child’s play is invaluable. “whole child development” refers to five specific areas of development. These areas are:
- Social Development
- Physical Development
- Cognitive Development
- Creative Development
- Emotional Development
It is our belief that quality childcare is a true reflection of the commitment early childhood professionals, parents, administration, and communities makes to being respectful partners in the implementation and design of best practices for young children and their families.
Our Story
Located in Calgary, ICDC (formerly known as the Alexandra Children’s Centre) was established in 1975 as a grass-roots childcare program designed and implemented by parents in the Inglewood community. Today, our accredited day care program continues to have parents providing direction and input into our program operations.
