To promote and foster the health and well-being of individuals and/or families who grieve for the physical or emotional loss of a child.
The International Children's Memorial Place began as an idea by Bill MacLean whose son Trevor had died as a result of a tragic snowmobile accident on January 10, 1995. Bill and his wife, Myra, looked for a place or service where parents who had experienced a great loss could get support. As a result, they set out to transform a former provincial park into a place where parents and families who have lost a loved one, especially a child, can visit and reflect.
Every spring, a Tree Dedication Ceremony honors those children who are forever young and will not complete life's journey. Parents place a plaque to dedicate a tree in memory of their child in the Everliving Forest.
During a Brick Laying Ceremony each August, a memorial brick may be placed in the Path of Remembrance to commemorate a friend or family member.
The beautiful Fountain of Life, with its large globe of the world, is a reminder that the ICMP serves not only the people of PEI, but also families around the world.
