On Friday night, April 17, heavy rains caused a flood through the city of Uvira, eastern DRC. The Mulongwe river burst it's banks around midnight catching many people unaware. Homes were swept away in the flood water, some with people still asleep inside. Latest death toll is set at 32, with many still reported missing. More than 3,500 houses were totally destroyed, leaving many families without basic shelter.
A SECOND FLOOD CAME THROUGH TWO NIGHTS LATER AND ON MAY 2nd THE RIVER TOOK MORE HOMES AGAIN
We need your help to provide shelter to some of the families by purchasing 25x25 ft tarps for $40 each that can be used as temporary housing to keep the continuing rain out. Not much, but at least a dry place to huddle away from the continuous downpour.
This tragedy is impacting the people of Uvira in DRC (Congo), that is already one of the poorest countries in the world. They have just come out of the horror of an Ebola outbreak and is also impacted by COVID-19.
Please join us to provide some relief for these desperate people who are suffering so much.
