If you followed the news, you could have come across the story of the M23 rebels, supported by Rwanda who captured Goma, the largest city of North Kivu province in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Over 4,000 people were killed and many people are destitute. Goma was already home to 650,000 refugees that fled the fighting north of Goma. Around 400 of these refugees have made it to Uvira, a city in South Kivu province, about 315 km south. Some sleep with relatives, others in churches and some in abandoned construction sites.
Our team at Grace Orphanage has started reaching out to the most desperate of these, mostly single moms (widows), who try to survive day, by day. We are distributing corn meal, rice and beans. We know we cannot help everyone, but we try to at least help some feed their children. Will you please join us to help in a small way relief the incredible burden on these moms.
