Mandate
Intersections Media Opportunities for Youth Society, a non- profit charitable organization, delivers the Intersections Digital Media Workshop a vital initiative creating equitable access for marginalized and underrepresented youth to achieve employment in the film and digital media industry.
As the screen industry continues to grow, there is a pressing need for a diverse and inclusive job-ready workforce that reflects the population of Canada.
The Intersections Digital Media Workshop is a hybrid (virtual and on site) training and mentorship program for youth (19 years to 30 years old) from marginalized and equity-deserving communities: Indigenous, Black, and other racialized groups, newcomers, LGBTQ2+ individuals, persons with disabilities, and women.
The Intersections Digital Media Workshop plays a critical role in addressing these inequities by providing on location filmmaking experience, essential software training, industry-recognized certifications, and meaningful mentorship from professionals. Through its targeted support, the program empowers youth with the skills, knowledge, and connections needed to access entry-level roles in film, television, and digital media—helping to build a more diverse, inclusive, and representative workforce in BC.'s creative economy.
Mission
Intersections Media Opportunities for Youth Society empowers marginalized and underrepresented youth to achieve meaningful employment in the film and digital media industry by providing equitable access to hands-on training, software instruction, industry-recognized certifications, and mentorship. Through the Intersections Digital Media Workshop, we help build a more inclusive, diverse, and representative creative workforce in British Columbia. This mission directly addresses the systemic barriers these youth face—such as lack of exposure, limited technical experience, digital literacy gaps, and absence of mentorship—ensuring that opportunity is based on potential, not background.
Vision
Intersections envisions a diverse and inclusive film industry landscape where marginalized and underrepresented youth have equitable access to training, mentorship, and opportunities for employment—cultivating a creative sector that mirrors the vibrant diversity of our society.
