Our Mission
ITK’s main activities involve representing Inuit on the National stage and ensuring the early engagement of Inuit with Governments in development of policy and programs.
The scope of ITK’s work has grown to include:
• Closing the gap in health outcomes between Inuit and other Canadians, addressing the essential social determinants of health and to protect and promote Inuit culture, language and values (Department of Health and Social Development),
• Protecting the environment and renewable resources so that future generations of Inuit can fully enjoy their relationship with the land, sea and ice (Department of Environment and Wildlife),
• Advancing Inuit knowledge and ensuring an active role for Inuit in scientific research (Inuit Qaujisarvingat: The Inuit Knowledge Centre),
• And promoting Inuit achievements and accomplishments to audiences on Parliament Hill, across Canada and around the world (Department of Communications).

ITK is guided in its activities by a collection of Inuit-specific regional working groups and national committees, and governed by a board of directors made up of the presidents of regional land claims organizations: Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., Makivik Corp., the
Nunatsiavut Government and the Inuvialuit Regional Corp., as well as the presidents of
three national organizations representing major Inuit constituencies: Pauktuutit Inuit
Women of Canada, the National Inuit Youth Council and the Inuit Circumpolar Council
(Canada).
