About Invermere Companion Animal Network (ICAN) Society
ICAN is a small, volunteer‑run, no‑kill, no‑cage animal rescue located in Invermere, BC. Our shelter is operated by a dedicated team of volunteers, supported by a part‑time administrative officer, and every rescue operation is carried out entirely by this team. Their compassion and commitment ensure that every animal in our care is healthy, safe, and loved while they wait for their new homes.
Founded in May 2007, ICAN has assisted more than 2,000 companion animals. Every cat who enters our shelter is spayed or neutered before adoption, because we believe deeply that responsible sterilization is the most effective way to address the global issue of pet overpopulation.
At ICAN, we advocate, educate, and provide—one animal, one family, and one act of kindness at a time.
Building the Future of ICAN
ICAN is growing—and our little 110‑year‑old house simply can’t keep up. It has served us well, but it was never designed to be an animal shelter. As our community’s needs have expanded, so has our responsibility to provide safe, modern, purpose‑built spaces for the cats who rely on us.
We are now launching a capital campaign to build a new shelter facility: a space that reflects the level of care, compassion, and professionalism that ICAN delivers every single day. This is a long‑term vision, and we know it may take years to raise the funds needed. But every contribution—large or small—moves us closer to making this dream a reality.
While we work toward this future, our day‑to‑day operations continue. We are still rescuing, rehabilitating, advocating, educating, and providing for the animals who need us right now. Your support ensures we can do both: care for today’s cats while building a better tomorrow for all who will come after them.
Together, we can create a shelter worthy of the lives it will protect.
