Mission Statement
Islanders Working Against Violence (IWAV) is a non-profit, charitable society on Salt Spring Island providing services throughout the Southern Gulf Islands to women and their children affected by poverty, violence and abuse.
We work from a feminist perspective, offering free, safe, confidential support and information that will assist survivors in making their own choices.
Our services:
- Salt Spring Island Transition House and the 24-Hour Help Line: free emergency housing for women and children fleeing abuse
- The Cedars: affordable second-stage housing for women and children who have stabilized after fleeing abuse
- Croftonbrook: affordable housing for families, seniors, and people with disabilities who are able to live independently
- Women’s Outreach Services: practical supports for survivors of intimate partner violence
- Stopping the Violence Counselling for women impacted by violence in their lifetime
- PEACE program for children and youth ages 3-18 of any gender impacted by family violence
- Sexual Assault Services program to support sexual assault survivors ages 13+ of any gender
- A community-based thrift store, “Transitions,” in downtown Ganges on Salt Spring Island as a fundraising program for the organization
- Our new social enterprise - Grow For It! - saving and selling seeds to increase food security for our second-stage residents
