Access to the facility and its research materials can be made by appointment during the closed months.
Islands Historical Society's subcommittee, SAIL2 [Save An Island Lighthouse] was formed in 2015 to gain control of and provide care and preservation to Peters Island Lighthouse and Western Light located on Brier Island. With the designation of these lighthouses as well as Northern Point Lighthouse on Brier Island under the Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act, work has begun on repairing Peters Island Lighthouse. This project is the first of many stages of restorative and interpretative work to be done with the first two lighthouses.
