Our Mission:
A foundation built on hope, kindness and love.
In memory of our superhero Isla Short, who, in her short life, showed the world what love really means.
In honor of a community (ISLAVIEW) who came together to show compassion and hope for the Short family during their two year cancer journey with their daughter, Isla.
In support of all the families who battle day in and day out with the challenges that come with having a child with a life-threatening condition.
With your help, we will support these families emotionally and financially across our beautiful province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Together, we will help them and provide hope for the future.
Islaview (I LOVE YOU) is a community kindness movement to show the world that even in the worst of times, LOVE wins and with love, we can help a lot of people.
Our Story:
Isla Short was a real-life superhero who loved people, who always wanted to give and who was always a bright light in the midst of darkness. In her short three and a half years, she inspired many people to live in hope, to never give up and to show compassion to others. She also loved to make people feel happy and to make people laugh with her funny jokes.
During her two year battle with Neuroblastoma, a rare type of childhood cancer, she also inspired her Uncle Dan to write a book, The Town of Islaview, which really captures the true meaning of how the word Islaview "I Love You" can change a person's heart for the better. This story also inspired the Town of Deer Lake to change its name to the town of Islaview for one day, making Canadian History. During Islaview Day, many businesses and community members came together to show love to one another and to also show love to the Short Family both emotionally and financially.
It was from this story and the Short family's medical journey that inspired the formation of the Islaview Foundation. While going through treatment with Isla, Sarah and Mike (Isla's parents) knew they wanted to help other families who are in similar situations, whether it be emotional or financial support. The Islaview Foundation is a way that they can give back to those who are in need like they were during Isla's cancer treatment.
Through the Islaview Foundation we will continue to shine Isla's bright light and help as many families as we can so they can focus on what's most important, their precious child.
