Itty Bitty Kitty Committee

about

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us.  We have many things we do in the community to help but the top three are as follows:

1. Baby Kittens: This work is tough. Babies need to be bottle fed every two hours, even through the night.. They can’t maintain their body temperature, they can’t urinate without help and if they get sick then they really can decline rapidly without help. We take these babies and will help to raise them in our incubator until they grow up to be a regular kitten and are ready for adoption.

2. Feral Cats: Kittens don’t appear from thin air. They are born to a mom and they usually end up in care for very sad reasons. 75% of kittens born outside will die before they reach one year old. The only way to stop this suffering is to spay and neuter our community and feral cats. We trap the moms and dads and have them fixed. We set up a feeder and the colony can live a peaceful life with no new babies. As each resident cat passes, the colony will slowly cease to exist. One unfixed feral cat and her offspring will produce over 1,100 cats in 6 years but only 335 will survive.

3. Low Cost Spay and Neuter: Our population crisis isn’t just from community or feral cats. There are also community members who have animals as pets but cannot afford to have them fixed. This creates a perfect storm of “oops” litters. So we try and offer low cost spay and neuter clinics as often as possible.
