A New Legacy

Campaign Ends July 1, 2019

Since the death of Calgary Police Service Const. John Petropoulos at an unsafe work site on Sept. 29, 2000, 16,286 workplace-related fatalities were recorded in Canada between 2001 and 2017. On average, more than 950 Canadians die as a result of occupational incidents each year. These figures – which represent thousands of real people, but do not reflect all the friends and relatives impacted by their loss – are unacceptable.

It's time to create a new legacy for hard-working Canadians.

The John Petropoulos Memorial Fund (JPMF) raises awareness about occupational safety and educates people about workplace hazards.

We are currently in the process of creating a new public service announcement (PSA) about occupational health and safety that will urge people to create safer workplaces for everyone. This video will be shown across Canada - it will enrage. It will make you think. It will motivate. Those who heed the call will help us create a safer environment for all workers.

Help us reach our $10,000 fundraising goal so we can create this PSA and start to create a new legacy.

Here are the donation amounts and incentives that accompany each donation:

  • $20 - donor will receive a traffic or workplace safety poster
  • $30 - donor will receive JPMF memorial pin that honours Const. John Petropoulos
  • $40 - donor will receive JPMF flash drive containing safety videos and resources
  • $60 - donor will receive a copy of the book A Widow's Awakening

All donors who wish to be recognized will be acknowledged on the John Petropoulos Memorial Fund's website at, as well as on our social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram).

In addition to the gifts donors will receive, this campaign will also include a letter-writing component. The John Petropoulos Memorial Fund will send letters to government ministers who oversee occupational and traffic safety legislation and enforcement in Canada (see a sample letter in the pictures section of this campaign page).

A letter will be sent to a government minister on behalf of each donor, unless the person making the donation indicates they do not want us to send a letter.
