KSAR has been providing search, rescue, and recovery services to our community and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) for over 53 years. With our dedicated team of over 50 volunteers, each year, we respond to between 50 and 70 tasks, handling 73% of all emergency callouts in the TNRD. We are kept busy with more than 12,000 volunteer hours annually.
Our team is equipped with a broad range of capabilities, including off-road rescue, swift water rescue, flat water rescue, ice rescue, high-angle rope rescue, wilderness canine teams, a tracking team, and a winter response team that specializes in avalanche rescue. Our callouts can vary in duration from a few hours to several days, often involving multiple operational periods. A single search may involve more than 4,000 volunteer hours alone.
Our services include wilderness searches, urban searches, evidence searches, body recoveries, disaster response for fires and floods, as well as civil evacuation orders and alerts. Additionally, we focus on educating the community about outdoor safety and preparedness. Our presence is essential, as it complements the services provided by organizations like the RCMP, BC Ambulance, Kamloops Fire and Rescue, and BC Coroners Service.
Since our inception, we have been searching for a permanent home. Although the City kindly provided us with a building on Mission Flats, they have since requested that we vacate the space. We are now dedicating more of our volunteer time to securing a new home and are in much need of community support.
