KARA Family Resource Centre (KARA-FRC) is a community-based charitable organization serving children, caregivers, and families across northeast Edmonton.

For more than 40 years, KARA has been committed to strengthening families, supporting healthy child development, and building connected, resilient communities.

We believe every family deserves access to the resources, relationships, and opportunities they need to thrive, regardless of their income or circumstances. That’s why KARA provides free, accessible programs and services designed to meet families where they are.

Our programs include early learning opportunities, parenting education, family support, developmental screening, school-aged programming, food security initiatives, community events, and connections to other local resources. Through our neighbourhood-based model, KARA brings programming directly into welcoming community spaces, including schools, libraries, community leagues, and other locations throughout Edmonton.

Each year, KARA serves more than 3500 children, caregivers, and families and delivers more than 1500 hours of community-based programming. We also facilitate more than 2000 referrals, helping families connect with additional supports and services when they need them.

Our approach is rooted in prevention, connection, and early support. By providing families with practical tools, trusted relationships, and opportunities to connect with their community, we help address challenges before they become crises. Whether a parent is looking for support with their child’s development, a family needs help navigating community resources, or a child needs a safe and welcoming place to learn and grow, KARA is here.
