KEBAOWEK FIRST NATION

about

Kebaowek First Nation (KFN) is an Algonquin community located on unceded territory in the Témiscamingue region of Quebec. Recognized as a First Nation government by Canada, KFN provides vital services to its members in areas such as Culture, Economic Development, Health, Elections, and Housing. These services support not only the over 200 members living on-reserve in Kebaowek but also those residing across Canada and beyond.

While our community has seen economic progress in recent years, the deep and lasting impacts of colonialism and the residential school system continue to be felt. Our language, cultural practices, and traditional knowledge are at risk of being lost. But we are determined to change that.

That is why KFN is investing in the future of its people by building a new cultural centre called Anicinabe Mikana — a space where language, traditions, and identity can be passed on to future generations. This centre will be more than just a building; it will be the heart of cultural revitalization and a source of pride for the entire community. While it will serve primarily the needs of KFN members, the centre will also welcome visitors and offer opportunities for others to learn about Algonquin history, culture, and resilience.

We invite you to stand with us in this important work. With your support, we can ensure that the language, knowledge, and cultural identity of Kebaowek First Nation not only survive — but thrive for generations to come.
