About KCR - COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Kelowna Community Resources Society, KCR, has been serving the Kelowna and area since 1983. We are an incorporated Society and a Registered Charity. KCR is a BC registered legal entity. We are accredited by CARF International.

During 2019-2020,

30 children found forever homes

3,000+ visitors to the Family Hub

6,800+ crisis line callers received support

1,780 newcomers accessed services to include and connect them with the community

15 families gained a family friend for mentoring

278,000 resources and services were accessed via Community Database  

304 NPO staff and volunteers expanded their knowledge and skills

355 participants received Employment training and support. 87% of participants found employment

KCR is a multi-service agency offering programs and projects in four overarching areas:

Community Services Promotes community information, supporting volunteer management and hosting learning opportunities.

Employment Services Helping unemployed and under-employed individuals identify career and educational goals, navigate the job search and develop essential job skills. Collaborating with employers in the Central Okanagan to more easily recruit quality applicants.

Family & Adoption Services Providing family-centred, preventative supports and program referrals to parents with young children to increase knowledge, skills and community connections. Facilitating the legal and emotional process for adoptive parents building their family through intercountry and domestic adoption, for birthparents who want to make adoption plans and children in need of permanent homes. The Central Okanagan Family Hub, safe space made possible through a team effort of community partners, funders, supporters and parents working together, is managed by our Family Services team. 

Immigrant Services Assisting Immigrants to Canada to feel welcome by providing information and connecting them to the community. Promoting the benefits of cultural diversity in our community by coordinating cultural awareness activities.

All of our programs foster independence and self-reliance. We promote diversity in ethnicity, faith, social status an economic background.

We support our participants to find physical, economic and social connections in our community. We deal with issues affecting marginalized people.

We advocate for understanding, acceptance, recognition of strength and contribution. We know that people are resilience. They find the strength to overcome when given opportunities.

We work closely with voluntary organizations, not for profit societies, charities, businesses, and governments. We address gaps to make Kelowna and area a more inclusive community.

KCR has 9 directors on our governance board. Our staff fills 47 full-time positions. We are supported by 362 volunteers.

Our budget is over $3 million. Funding comes from fee for service, donations, private funding, grants, and all levels of government.
