For over twenty years, the Kingston School of Art has been providing creative art experiences to Kingstonians of all ages and stages of artistic development. Students enjoy classes and workshops in a wide range of art mediums, including drawing, watercolours, acrylics, oils, pastels, and printmaking. We believe in a hands-on educational model that focuses on studio-based learning. Over the years, we have become a community hub for artistic learning. Five years ago, we opened the Window Art Gallery, a beautiful, light-filled space that is the only truly community gallery in Kingston, in which local artists and groups of artists can display and sell their work. In 2017, we started up the Community Studio program, whereby members can enjoy shared use of our studios when they are not being used for classes or workshops. Storage facilities mean they don't have to carry their supplies back and for each time they come in to paint.
Our educational program includes daytime, evening, and weekend classes and workshops for adults and children; summer art camps in July and August for children aged 5 to 10; summer weekend sessions for teens; and special events such as the annual Paint the Town! plein air painting and sketching weekend in September.
Donations are a big part of what keeps the KSOA going. We are almost entirely volunteer run, and our financial support comes from course tuition, grants and donations. Your donation goes directly to paying expenses such as instructors' pay, art supplies for children's programs, rent, insurance, utilities, etc. The KSOA is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers, who donate countless hours to ensure the success of the KSOA.
