The Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre is proud to partner with this locally-run community group.

WR Grassroots is a volunteer-led grassroots group from the Waterloo Region that was founded in February 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They are your next-door neighbors, your co-workers, your family, the person you go to church with. 

WR Grassroots Response began by building a network of volunteers who would open their homes and their hearts to Ukrainians fleeing to Ontario. In less than two years, it has grown from one individual to over 800 volunteers and five paid staff. 

Due to the influx of applications from Ukrainians, this group is transforming and expanding beyond the Region of Waterloo. They are creating clusters for more targeted and efficient operations to facilitate this growth and have already founded three clusters and two more are in the development process. In the coming months, they hope to create an additional six clusters.
