Kohan Reflection Garden Society

about

The Kohan Reflection Garden Society is a registered not-for profit volunteer charity. Since 1990 the Society has managed the Kohan Reflection Garden with a vision: to acknowledge and commemorate the Japanese Canadian community as an integral part of life in the Slocan Valley and to create a place of beauty on the shores of Slocan Lake, a public garden for residents and tourists to enjoy.

The Kohan Reflection Garden is located at 217 - 1st Ave. New Denver, BC. Entrance is by donation and the Garden is open year round. This horticultural gem provides a place for picnics, meditation, casual recreation, weddings, memorials, performances, bird watching, photography, horticultural education and more, for the community. The Garden's design concept is that of a "strolling garden" where visitors can experience different "garden rooms" and opportunities for contemplation and reflection.  Because it commemorates the Japanese Canadian Internment in the New Denver area, the Garden also represents historical and cultural significance to the Slocan Valley and beyond.

The Garden is a living work of art that requires ongoing maintenance, care and improvement. One of the most important assets of the Society is a faithful volunteer base. Some volunteers have dedicated time towards maintenance and upkeep of the Garden since 1989, and many others help with special events and annual Spring and Fall garden clean-ups.

Your generous support will make it possible for visitors and our community to experience and enjoy the Kohan Reflection Garden today and for generations to come.
