Kootenay-Columbia Discovery Centre Society

about

The Kootenay-Columbia Discovery Centre Society (KCDCS) delivers engaging, informative and fun environmental education programs and events at the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area (CVWMA).  Programs (Wetland Education and Awareness Programs – WEAP) focus on the importance and functions of wetlands, connecting people to the natural environment and the management practices and conservation of the CVWMA and its connection to the greater goals of land conservation within the province.

The WEAP includes the delivery of: BC curriculum matched school programs (K-12); guided canoe and walking excursions; interpretive presentations; kids summer nature camps; group events and virtual and self-guided programs. Programs always aim to create and understanding and appreciation of the natural world and will tie into timely and relevant topics such as climate changes, indigenous knowledge and water conservation and protection.

KCDCS also operates a Discovery Centre that provides visitors the opportunity to view hands-on, interactive educational displays and information about the wetland and wildlife of the CVWMA and surrounding Kootenay-Columbia Basin.

The current Centre is temporary as we work towards the development of a new Centre.
