The little brothers of the Cross (les Petits frères de la Croix) is a catholic monastic community consecrated to a life of eucharistic adoration, living the spiritualité of the blessed brother Charles de Foucauld. With the approbation of the archbishop of Québec, father Michel-Marie de la Croix (father Michel Verret) founded this community in 1980.
Our community is composed of monks of which some are priests living by the Rule of Saint Augustin. Connected with the diocese of Québec we devote ourselves to prayer and eucharistic adoration living the spirituality of the blessed brother Charles de Foucauld, also known as « little brother Charles of Jesus ».
Our founder, father Michel-Marie de la Croix describes in the following sentences, the charisma of our community :
« Establish a monastic family where Christ reigns and charity lives. By imitating the hidden life of Jesus at Nazareth, we consecrate ourselves to the Eucharist, celebrated and adored, along with the celebration of the Divine Office. In the silence, the solitude and the necessary withdrawal from the world expressed by the monastic cloister, we live a family life intensely stirred by an harmonius, tender, fraternal love in a spirit of poverty and simplicity. »
Faithful to the spirit of our spiritual father, Charles de Foucauld and the teachings of our founder, father Michel-Marie de la Croix, the little brothers of the Cross (les Petits frères de la Croix) desire from the bottom of their hearts, that each one of you, brother or sister, may experience the love of God and realize how much this love of God is a source of inexhaustible peace, joy and profound transformation. More than a wish on the part of our community, it is the manifested will of Our God’s ineffable and unfathomable mercy.
A real haven of peace, the monastery of the glorious Cross (le monastère de la Croix Glorieuse) welcomes all seek a silent retreat to find rest in the presence of God. With each way, they may define it, in order to hear God’s Word and in which they may find themselves, by living in close quarters with the community and its own rhythm, find a climate conductive to a blessed quietness, in eucharistic adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.
We do welcome people of all faiths with openess and respect, hoping that this time of silence and of presence with oneself and the surrounding nature will be a rewarding time of peace and resourcefulness. Every person, whatever their beliefs and life situations, are welcome to spend from two up tu five days where he or she will be treated as one of the family.
Our monastic welcoming of guests is for us, a call to recognize and acknowledge in each visitor or retreatant the presence of Christ. Devolved especially to our little brother inn-keeper, this role of welcoming is a part of our apostolate.
