THE LINK

about

THE LINK HAS BEEN CREATING QUALITY SERVICES THAT SUPPORT AND ADVANCE FAMILIES, INDIVIDUALS AND CHILDREN SINCE 1992.

Our vision is to create a community that is food secure and where all families and individuals can thrive.  We value practices that are supportive, reflective, respectful and inclusive.

Our Story begins over 30 years ago, with a handful of people who recognized that some families in the community were struggling, and the supports they needed were not locally available.

This meant that individuals and families had to travel long distances to access supportive services.  Often young children had to wait until they were school-age in order to receive therapy or specialized support at school.

This was frustrating for teachers and support staff who knew that prevention and access to early learning supports could make a big difference to the quality of life of children and their families.

Working together, the College of New Caledonia, School District 91, First Nations and community members began to identify important issues and concerns.

Immediately it became clear that funding was needed to create the programs and services that could really help.

Unfortunately, other organizations in the community were not eligible to apply for many of the available grants. And so in 1992, the Society was born.

Over the next several years, the society acquired funding to help create the Early Intervention Services program – possibly the most impactful program in the society’s early years; FASD training and support which was recognized and duplicated throughout Canada; and the Lakes District Food Centre which today serves over a dozen communities in the Lakes District.

Today, we continue our commitment that began over thirty years ago: to nourish family and community.

We do this in an interconnected hub of services called The Link.

Our programs:
