L.D.E.S.A, better known in the community as "the Hub" is 100% operated by volunteers and 100% funded by donations.
Our mission:To strengthen community by connecting people to support services and knowledge and provide needed resources in a supportive, non-judgemental atmosphere. We strive to fill in the gaps in financial supports and services available elsewhere. Through referrals from government agencies (municipal and provincial) and the church community, as funds will allow, we will provide a one-time only "hand up" with critically overdue rents and utilities. Persons provided these supports are expected to lend volunteer support when asked and seek financial counselling.
We are advocates for the homeless in our community, providing care kits, clothing and quilts to those in need. We are partnering with 3 local churches to launch our "Community Inn Program" in 2016 to provide overnight shelter to the homeless during the winter months. Our "Operation Night Angel" program provides short-term motel room stays, support information and connections to women victims of partner abuse.
Other services provided include but are not limited to: "Coats for Families" program, providing winter wear at no fee to families in need; Resume building and job searches; accommodation searches; access to financial counselling; food cards, fuel cards, bus tickets; supportive listening in a non-judgemental atmosphere.
