Our Mission

Founded in 1997 by the dancer Cindy Schwartz, Les Muses : Centre des arts de la scène was created to fill a void in the artistic education for disabled individuals. Initially oriented toward the arts and recreational activities, the project has expanded throughout the years and now aims to offer a full-time professional program in the performing arts (drama, dance and singing).

The organisation has gathered a solid team of well established teachers, who have trained to this day about a hundred students. Every student is auditioned to verify their artistic abilities in order to offer a program that will allow them to gain the technical abilities required by their art and, ultimately, to reach their full creative potential. Students who complete the training at the school are recognized for their versatility, professionalism and creativity.

Les Muses is the answer to the growing need of the movie industry and the stage for actors who possess special abilities. Year after year, the organisation creates new bonds with Montreal’s artistic scene in order to grant its students the opportunity to participate in professional productions and become a part of the artistic community. Ailleurs, an early public production featuring the whole cast of trainees at the time, was created in 2003 at the Maison de la culture Mercier. Les Muses also works closely with emerging companies of the Montreal stage, like Joe Jack et John and Les Productions des pieds des mains. In the past three years, some of our best students have given outstanding performances in TV shows like Négociateur, Annie et ses hommes and, most recently, Gang de rue, Tout sur moi and Virginie.
