The diocese of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière was erected in 1951 by Pope Pius XII. The Bull of Erection was given by the Roman Consistorial Congregation on June 23, 1951. The territory of the diocese includes the RCMs of Montmagny, L'Islet, Kamouraska, Rivière-du-Loup (in part) and Témiscouata (in part). Appointed bishop of the new diocese by Pope Pius XII, Bishop Bruno Desrochers officially took charge of his diocese in September 1951.The current bishop, Bishop Pierre Goudreault, is the sixth bishop to whom our diocesan Church was entrusted in 2018.
