Light Up The World (LUTW) is a Canadian non-profit organization focused on the principle that access to basic electricity services for lighting and communication changes lives. We work in remote, un-electrified rural villages where often the only option for families to have light in their home is to burn kerosene. We work with communities to offer villagers renewable energy home to supply their lighting and communication needs. The result is a transformative impact which creates and healthy and safe home environment enhances opportunities for education and improves the economic outlook by increasing disposable income and encouraging home enterprise. Our project approach emphasizes training and local ownership of projects as they are the only effective means of achieving sustainable development impacts.
LUTW has worked with over 220 partner organizations to bring solar power to communities in 54 countries, but there is still much work to be done.
