About Us

Lionheart Foundation was created in 2009 to address a chronic shortage of mental health therapists who are trained, capable and willing to work with adolescents and their families, and to provide financial aid to families in need of therapy for anxiety based disorders.

Globally, depression and anxiety are the two most common mental health issues that affect adolescents today. The issue has only worsened since the COVID-19 Pandemic, with clinical symptoms of depression and anxiety doubling in the youth population. Young girls and females are at the highest risk of symptoms related to anxiety and depression.

According to Statistics Canada, young people aged 12-24 experience the highest incidence of mental disorders of any age group in Canada and recent studies report that suicide is now the leading cause of death for children aged 10 to 14.

As a result, Lionheart’s services have increased by 400% since 2020, and Lionheart has responded to a 600% increase in community inquiries than prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

With increased demand, Lionheart is seeking funding to support strategic growth to continue to meet this demand.

Lionheart provides adolescents and young adults, aged 12-25, and their families, with affordable access to specialized mental health services that address serious mental health challenges, offering early intervention to break harmful cycles and build resilience for adulthood.
