Haiti in crisis - Key ways to make a difference
Since 2011, Little Footprints Big Steps has supported vulnerable children and families across 7 of Haiti’s 10 departments (states/provinces). Haiti is currently experiencing a severe economic, social and political crisis that puts children at even more risk. Due to crippling inflation, insecurity and lack of circulation, families have become critically vulnerable – and the Little Footprints team is on the ground, providing critically needed supports.
Urgent needs:
- Nursing and medical services for vulnerable children, including helping families access functioning hospitals.
- Supporting Haitian child protection authorities in recovering 520 children from neglectful and abusive orphanages.
- Accessing emergency supplies to disburse where most needed (e.g., food staples, water purification tablets, etc.).
Key ways to support long-term recovery:
- Funding education for children in families with financial insecurity.
- Offering 200+ sustainable micro loans or “agro starter kits” (2 goats and seedlings) to be managed by communities for generations to come.
