About This Charity

Our Mission

Mission Statement:

To bring greater awareness to Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) by encouraging education, fostering research and providing support for those impacted by LDS.

The LDSF-Canada was founded in 2010 by three families impacted by LDS. In early 2011, a strategic alliance was formed with the Loeys-Dietz Syndrome Foundation (LDSF) in the United States with the intent of creating a global partnership to deal with LDS and those impacted by the disease.

In late 2011 LDSF-Canada received its official status as a not-for-profit organization under the Canadian & Quebec income tax acts and can now solicit and receive donations globally and issue tax donation receipts to Canadian residents.

About Our Charity

During 2011 the LDSF & LDSF-Canada distributed over 700 medical packages and a "head-to-toe" checklist to doctors and medical professionals in North America and internationally and was present at 12 conferences promoting awareness within the medical world.

In late 2011 the LDSF-Canada held its first multi-disciplnary holistic clinic at the Shriners in Montreal. This clinic will be staffed with medical professionals from the Shriners, Montreal Children's and St Justine. The objectives are to reduce the time required for a diagnosis from 2-3 years to 3 weeks and to provide better disease management resulting in more favourable outcomes. An adult clinic is in the planning stages and should be launched in the spring of 2012 with the Montreal Heart Institute as our host partner.
