about

The Joan Latchford Project

This project safeguards Joan Latchford’s 20,000-image archive: a decades-spanning record of Toronto’s immigrants, refugees, and its vibrant cultural diversity lived out in daily life. Through student-led digitization, a monograph, and public exhibitions, her work will be preserved and made accessible for generations.

The Magenta Foundation: Canada’s Leader in Arts and Culture

Originally recognized for its publishing achievements, The Magenta Foundation has evolved into a driving force for nurturing creative talent and protecting artistic legacies.

For over two decades, Magenta has championed emerging and underrepresented artists and curators, growing into a dynamic platform that bridges generations and disciplines. Through exhibitions, mentorship, and innovative projects, Magenta continues to shape Canada’s cultural landscape by amplifying voices that define the future of the arts at home and abroad.

Empowering Emerging Curators and ArtistsMagenta’s programs equip the next generation of curators and artists with mentorship, training, and opportunity. By fostering talent across Canada, we strengthen a cultural sector led by innovative and skilled creators.

Protecting the Future of Arts PractitionersWe remove barriers to education, mentorship, and employment for young artists and curators. Our inclusive approach builds sustainable careers and ensures Canada’s creative ecosystem remains diverse, equitable, and forward-looking.

Preserving Legacy. Building Futures. Advancing the Arts. The Magenta Foundation preserves and advances Canada’s visual culture. We collaborate with image makers whose practices span decades and support emerging artists creating new legacies. Through archiving, publishing, and mentorship, we protect the work that shaped Canadian art and secure a vibrant, inclusive future for the arts.

Under the Magenta umbrella, creativity thrives. Artists, curators, and visionaries come together to inspire and build a bold, inclusive future for Canadian art.
