Mainland Enhancement of Salmonid Species Society
Every Fish Counts
M.E.S.S.S. is a community-based charity carrying out streamkeeping, salmon enhancement and enumeration work in the unceded territories of the Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw Nations, also known as the Broughton Archipelago in British Columbia, Canada.
M.E.S.S.S. became a non-profit society on August 1st, 1985, making this our 35th dedicated year of salmon conservation work. We are based in the remote community of Echo Bay, B.C. where many of our volunteers that make up the M.E.S.S.S. Board of Directors and creekwalkers live.
We all rely upon the salmon returning to their natal streams, and M.E.S.S.S. is committed to keeping our finger on the pulse of these rivers and creeks; with various initiatives and monitoring work underway to better the health of the salmon and their streams. Our work is volunteer-based, and funded mainly by donations through Billy Proctor’s off-grid and remote Museum located in Echo Bay.
Our current work includes Fry & Invertebrate Surveys, our annual Salmon Enumeration Program, and ongoing Limestone Placement Projects.
Thanks to each and every supporter of M.E.S.S.S. through the years and currently. Without your generosity and care for salmon, our work would not be possible.
