Theatre begins years before the audience gathers and the curtain rises,  before directors and actors and sound, light, costume, set and digital designers all come together to collaborate on mounting a production.

It begins with the play, and the playwright, driven by a passion to show the world as it is or as it could be, to reflect the human condition, to engage the world in a dialogue; an invitation to imagine, think, and feel collectively.  

Since 1979 the Manitoba Association of Playwrights has been supporting the development of plays and playwrights through a variety of programs and services, and has played a crucial and invaluable role in nurturing and supporting the vibrant theatre scene we enjoy today.  MAP members include established Manitoba dramatists, emerging playwrights just learning their craft, and writers at all stages of their artistic careers from all across Manitoba.
